Lyrix Organix are delivering FREE nationwide youth-focused creative workshops – and the chance to win mentoring + grant award up to £1000 (one per workshop) – in partnership with Woodland Trust to help pave the way for the Charter for Trees, Woods and People (aka the Tree Charter) that will be launched in November 2017.

This formative environmental campaign will span across four UK cities to allow youth around the UK to share their perspectives on what trees mean to them through their choice of artistic medium, and help generate stories and ideas that will inspire the contents of the Tree Charter.

In April 2016 Lyrix Organix partnered with Woodland Trust to produce ‘Canopy’ – an innovative event that brought together artists, storytellers, academics, teachers, crafts people, environmentalists and conservationists. The aim was to forge new ways to engage the UK in the Tree Charter – the first charter of its kind in 800 years. These workshops are the first step in engaging young people in creative ways. See video below for a look back at Canopy.

Society in the UK has never been more disconnected from its trees and it is imperative to incite a dialogue about trees and woods and celebrate their immense contribution to our lives before it’s too late!

The four regions and their respective workshop subjects take place in some stunning host partner venues surrounded by nature:

Pollok Country Park, Glasgow – Photography (6 Nov 2016)

Bute Park, Cardiff – Spoken Word (3 Dec 2016)

Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester – Contemporary Drawing (10 Dec 2016)

BIMM, London – Music (12 + 16 Dec 2016, 2 part session)

BIMM, London – Event Management

At the end of each workshop, you can sign up to become a ‘Charter Champion’ youth ambassador and have the opportunity to apply for up to £1000 ‘Charter Champions Innovation Award’ (independently or in partnership with others)… that will allow you to further spread their passion and learning to their social networks and communities. One grant award per workshop! This can be done through whatever creative channel you choose –be it a music event, poetry performance, digital project or a particular product. Winners will also receive one-to- one mentoring with an industry professional to help you develop your idea.

To register your interest please email lyrixorganix@gmail.com ASAP – hurry, there are very limited spaces for each workshop! Sadly this is only available to 18-24 year olds but we hope to have wider opportunities available soon with Woodland Trust
